The UK offers a wide variety of prestigious scholarships designed to assist ambitious international scholars in realising their aspirations across diverse fields of study.
Government-Funded Scholarships
Prestigious scholarships sponsored by the UK government, primarily to fortify international academic ties. Examples include the Chevening Scholarships and the Commonwealth Scholarships.
Non-Government Funded Scholarships
Facilitated by private entities, trusts, or philanthropic organisations, often promoting certain disciplines or fostering international relations. An example would be the Rhodes Scholarship, focusing on leadership qualities.
University-Funded Scholarships
Every major university in the UK has its scholarship program aiming to attract the brightest international talents. For instance, Oxford's Clarendon Fund offers scholarships based on academic excellence.
Course-Based Scholarships
Specific to particular courses or disciplines. For example, an MBA scholarship at the London Business School would focus on prospective business leaders.
Regional Scholarships
Designed for students from specific regions, like Scholarships for Bangladeshi students in the UK. An instance would be scholarships funded by UK institutions specifically for Asian or African students.
Merit-Based Scholarships
Awarded purely on academic achievements, sports, arts, or other talents. They acknowledge students' past achievements and potential contributions to the university community.
Need-Based Scholarships
Designed for students with financial constraints, these scholarships evaluate the socio-economic status of the student and their families.
Sports Scholarships
For students who excel in particular sports, ensuring they can continue their passion alongside their academic pursuits. Universities with strong sports programs usually offer these.
Research Scholarships
Specifically for those aiming for research roles, these scholarships support their studies and sometimes even their research projects. The Newton Fund is an example of promoting research and innovation.

Often collaborative efforts between the UK institution and institutions from other countries, promoting mutual exchange. An example might be the UK-Bangladesh Education and Research Initiative.
